We want to be upfront about how Cycladic Spaces makes money, because we like you and we hate the pretend-independent thing.

The short version

Some of the links on this site go to Amazon Australia and other retailers through affiliate programs. If you click one of our links and then buy something, we earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra. The price is the same as if you had typed the retailer's address into your browser directly.

Every product, book, hotel, tour and adaptor we recommend is something we would send you over a coffee. We do not accept payment to include products, we do not review things we would not use ourselves, and we do not add affiliate links to products we would not stand behind. If a product on our site earned a bad experience, it does not get a link, and it usually does not get a mention.

The affiliate programs we participate in

Amazon Associates (Amazon Australia)

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.au. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

You will see Amazon Australia links in posts where we recommend books, travel adaptors, packing gear, luggage and other physical products.

Other affiliate programs

We may occasionally participate in affiliate programs with Australian bookshops (like Booktopia), travel insurance providers, tour operators and other retailers we genuinely use and trust. Any affiliate relationship will be disclosed in the individual post that contains those links, using the same standard as this page.

Why we do it this way

Running an independent Greek-Australian travel publication costs money: web hosting, image licences, the actual travel that lets us tell you which Cretan tavern is worth the drive. Affiliate income covers a slice of that. It lets us keep the site free, keep the paywall off, and keep taking the trips that make the recommendations real.

The trade-off we make with you is transparency. Every affiliate link on this site is disclosed in the post it lives in, and this page exists to explain the whole picture in one place. If you would rather not use our links, go directly to the retailer. We would still rather you buy the right adaptor than the wrong one.

What we will never do

  • Accept payment for a positive review

  • Recommend a product, hotel or tour we have not used ourselves or that we would not stand behind

  • Hide the fact that a link is an affiliate link

  • Add affiliate links to editorial content where they do not belong (essays, cultural writing, personal pieces)

  • Sell your data to advertisers or affiliate partners. Affiliate networks track clicks and purchases on their own platforms, not yours

Editorial independence

Our recommendations are ours. The presence of an affiliate program does not influence which islands we send you to, which hotels we love, or which books we call essential. If an affiliate program disappeared tomorrow, this site would look identical.

Where a piece is sponsored, gifted or paid for by a partner, we mark it clearly at the top of the post as "Sponsored" or "Gifted stay". That is separate from affiliate content and covered by different rules.

Consumer rights

This disclosure is provided in line with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) guidance on social media and online endorsements, the requirements of the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program Operating Agreement, and best-practice standards for online publishers globally.

Your rights as a consumer of any product bought through our links are unchanged. Warranties, returns and consumer guarantees are between you and the retailer.
